Day 26: Prayer and Silence

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:3

Silence. There it is again. The tug- that familiar tug that seems to follow everywhere I go. It is there from sun-up till I rest my head and lay my things down for the day. Silence, looming over my shoulder. No matter where I go or what I’m doing, its presence remains steady.

Though I may turn and face and speak to others, it stands perpendicular—calmly square and waiting. Silence waits for me.

Admittedly, if you were to ask my preference during my times of prayer to the Lord as of late, I would ask for a voice. A sure voice of direction, of prophecy, vision, or promise. Something, anything, really. But here I am, with silence.

I have questions, I have prayers that have been uttered countless times that are waiting for their match in answers. He evidently knows. He heard me the first time I spoke. I will not fret or fear that He has forgotten.

It’s not that I have never seen His hand move in response to the prayers of His people, I have! Many, many times. It’s why I keep praying. I have seen Him answer, gloriously bringing fruition to prayers. It is mind-blowing, the things He can do and often does when He is asked. The Father, the Everlasting, comes through, triumphant, on behalf of His own. His arm is not short, nor is He blind and deaf to my prayers. Far from it. I know in my mind His reasons and ways are just.

In this season, He has not abandoned me to lonely silence. Rather, He’s gifted me with His silent presence. What is one to do with it? With Him, so near and yet so….quiet?

“God’s silences are His answers.” (Oswald Chambers) He is at work. Oh, Holy Spirit remind me! “Child, watch for me. Wait for my hand to move. Where is your wonder at what I will do?”

Lord, may the desires of my prayers be like incense before You, trusting and selfless. Holy Spirit, rouse my mind and heart to stand and watch for the day. For the day He appoints to show forth His power for all the earth to see. Increase my measure of faith to believe again, to wonder of the marvelous things You have purposed long ago. You have heard me. Now, Lord, I wait to hear from You. I stand and watch for You.
